Good news from VIHA: new detox available

After last night’s heated demonstration by St. Andrews parents toward VIHA’s Howard Waldner I was pleased to hear some good news I learned this morning from VIHA: some new initiatives to treat addictions that have come out of the Mayor’s Task Force recommendations:

  • A new outpatient detox program that will treat up to 20 people.
  • An in-home detox program starting in April that will target seven people (in this instance “home” can be a shelter or even a friend’s couch).
  • A new program at the Eric Martin Pavillion that will have 21 medical beds (the former program on Pembroke St. had only seven beds) beginning in September.

I understand these programs are funded with the $7 million VIHA pledged for the Mayor’s Task Force recommendations.
