City Hall: 150 years of “not so fast…”

I was talking with a local architect today. I asked him about the status of one of his latest projects. It had been approved by Council, and a government tenant had signed the lease and was waiting for construction to start.

He said it was bogged down at City Hall waiting for staff review. Apparently there just isn’t anybody there who has the time to deal with this project; there are higher priority projects being dealt with.

There are some developers that have given up trying to develop anything in Victoria. Several others I’ve talked to are frustrated to the point of exhaustion at the level of inaction and red tape at City Hall.

Something to contemplate as we enter an economic recession.
